ERSO to make India the Global Repair Capital

New Delhi, 31 May 2023: In line with the overall vision of the Shri Narender Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister to make India a Global Electronics powerhouse, the Government of India launched the ERSO Pilot initiative to validate certain transformational policy and process changes introduced to make India the Repair Capital of the World.

     MeitY partners with Industry body MAIT to launch a pilot project on ERSO

     Revenue potential from Outsourced Repair likely to be $20 billion over the next 5 years 



The ERSO pilot was launched today by Shri Alkesh Kumar Sharma, Secretary, MeitY, Shri Rajiv Talwar, Member (Customs), CBIC, Mr M Srinivas, Principal Chief Commissioner Chennai & Bengaluru, Shri Bhuvnesh Kumar, Additional Secretary, MeitY & Shri. Raj Kumar Rishi, President, MAIT.


Demonstrating true commitment to the growth of Industry, MeitY, CBIC, DGFT & MoEF&CC converged with India’s apex ICT Association MAIT to bring about key policy and process related changes that seek to make India the most attractive repair destination for ICT products globally. MAIT expects that over the next 5 years, India’s ERSO industry is likely to fetch India upto $20 billion in revenue & also generate millions of jobs.The project has been identified as a gamechanger for India and has been supported by GoI to make India a world leader in a hitherto untapped domain.



Five companies namely Flex, Lenovo, CTDI, R-Logic & Aforeserve are part of this pilot. Post the pilot a detailed assessment will be carried out and modifications made in the process & policy as necessary by the Government.


Speaking on the occasion, Col AA Jafri, Retd. DG MAIT said, “The ERSO initiative is in line with the PM’s clarion call to support Mission LiFE, and will be a gamechanger for Global environmental sustainability and reiterates India’s commitment to the environment and our planet. It will enable extension of device life globally by providing cheap and reliable repair of ICT products for the globe.”
